Motown Royalty to Launch Empire City Casino Summer Concert Series

YONKERS, NY – After two years of restrictions related to the COVID-19 pandemic, live music returns this summer to Empire City Casino by MGM Resorts in a big way.

Grammy-winning funk and soul superstars The Commodores will perform at the track on Sunday, August 14 at 8 p.m. Some of their most iconic hits include “Brick House”, “Saturday Night”, “Nightshift” and “Lady”. “

The Commodores were formed in 1968 when all members were students at the famed Tuskegee Institute. After being discovered by Berry Gordy, the Commodores sold over 60 million records for Motown Records, earning them the nickname “The Legends of Motown”. Since then, the band has continued to release new music, set up their own record label, and toured the world performing to their international fans.

“MGM Resorts is one of the world’s leading entertainment companies, so we’re thrilled to bring these Motown music legends here to Yonkers,” said Empire City Casino General Manager Ed Domingo. “After a two-year hiatus from live concerts, Empire City Casino is proud to welcome the Commodores this summer, and we hope this is the first of many such events that we can bring to the local community at the ‘coming.”

The August 14 concert will be part of Empire City Casino’s special event-filled summer and will be the Commodores’ inaugural performance at historic Yonkers Raceway.

Tickets starting at $45 can be purchased through ticket master. Seats will be allocated and participants must be 18 years or older to attend. Doors will open at 7 p.m. The concert will take place outdoors to allow for significant ventilation and space for social distancing.

The Empire City Casino offers free parking, as well as paid valet parking. The destination is also accessible by public transport, including Metro-Nord and bus lines.
