Vegas’ iconic casino gets a makeover

Times are changing in Las Vegas.

Construction cranes seem to be an integral part of the Las Vegas skyline at this point as casinos are built or upgraded along the Strip.

It’s almost like a domino effect as each casino spends millions of dollars improving its appearance, the next casino has to spend money to keep up with the Joneses.

The Strip is expanding as world-class attractions are built on the North Strip.

Resorts World International has opened on the North Strip, and the long-delayed Fontainebleau has been back on track for a late 2023 opening. These projects are joined by a major renovation by Wynn Resorts (WYNN) – Get the report from Wynn Resorts Limited signature property and several massive new projects (at least two casinos, an NBA-ready arena, and possibly a Major League Baseball stadium) underway.

Caesars Big Projects (CZR) – Get the report from Caesars Entertainment Inc. and MGM (MGM) – Get the MGM Resorts International Report are currently underway while some of Sin City’s most iconic attractions are also getting a makeover.

On June 14, the Plaza Hotel & Casino unveiled four large-scale projects that will reimagine the casino’s iconic Main Street facade at a press conference.

The casino wants to change with the times.

The Plaza’s iconic dome will feature a new outdoor Carousel Bar. Alongside that, the Plaza is building what it calls “the first downtown smoke-free, social media-friendly gaming space.”

On the roof of this new gaming space, the Plaza is building Oscar’s Patio, a rooftop restaurant named for former Las Vegas Mayor Oscar Goodman. According to the Plaza, Oscar’s Patio will be the first restaurant to offer fine dining outdoors downtown.

Finally, the Plaza is also building a new Pinbox Donuts location on the property that will offer an exclusive menu featuring alcohol-enhanced versions of the dessert venue’s donuts.

The Plaza plans to begin construction in June with a year-end completion date.

The State of the Strip
