Sports betting kicked off Wednesday with 21 kiosks on the Niagara Fallsview Casino Resort gaming floor.
“We are thrilled to bring this highly anticipated service to our customers,” said Steve Weel, vice president of operations for Niagara Casinos, in a press release.
“People have been waiting for this for a while and now we are delivering.”
To kick off the newsstands, Mayor Jim Diodati placed the first legal sports bet, which was $20, on the Toronto Argonauts to win the Gray Cup.
15 additional kiosks will be launched next Wednesday. Casino officials said sports fans will be able to watch games at Casino Niagara’s LEV2L Sports Bar while enjoying a selection of food and beverages on game day.
Touchscreen kiosks at both properties will allow placing bets on all major North American sports and a variety of other major sporting events, including the World Cup.
Single event bets, parlays, props and other betting options are available. Bets can also be placed at sports betting counters.
Sports betting ambassadors will be available at both properties to answer any questions sports fans may have regarding games, betting options or to take bets, officials said.
“Being able to now offer sports betting to Fallsview and Casino Niagara customers is quite a thrill and a long-lasting milestone,” said Niagara Casinos President Richard Taylor.
“This day would not have been possible without the partnership of the OLG, the Province of Ontario and the AGCO (Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario). This gaming expansion will bring jobs, excitement, and other positive economic impacts to Niagara Casinos and the Niagara Region, and we can’t wait to get started.
Fallsview plans to open a Sportsbook in late 2023.
